Completely agree.
You really have to be a certain type of gamer to truly enjoy (on a long term) online multiplayer. Heck all the ribbing that simply playing online gets from people who just enjoy video games is evidence enough that the "online community" is not 'family friendly', and you need to be pretty thick-skinned to enjoy it, let alone work your way up the ladder in skill to feel you're actually doing something worthwhile :P (unless you only play with personal friends, which is getting closer to co-op multiplayer)
In this context it's like an iceburg. Online Multiplayer is the the little bit of ice seen floating above the water, but the real game is the enormously massive chunk under the surface. #analogytimeagain
