new oni patch suggestion

How hard would it be to make a patch that would allow the use of a controller other than the keyboard and mouse? I went and bought a nifty InterAct Axis Pad under the assumption that the full version of Oni would have a more in-depth controller configuration menu, but for now it appears that the two just won't communicate; as there is only the script file. Is anyone out there able to make such a patch, if it's even possible? And btw, I'm using and iMac, and this controller *does* have enough directional controls and buttons to handle the game (if only the game could handle it).
