Oh! Oh, oh oh oh, I just thought of something that is completely impossible at this point, but still an intriguing idea. Instead of straight multiplayer mode, have a two-player team mode where the second player does the tactical placements using shinatama. It would require the game to be able to also run as a strategy game, but it would be an unique way of setting up multiplayer. You could probably run a fairly interesting 4 player two team game that would have essentialy the latency of a 2 player game(let's call it a 2 and two half player game.), as well as having the action of a much larger game.
