Why would a context switch or something similar be needed though? It doesn't say "Intel inside" on my head. There's a lot of evidence pointing to our brains having more of parallel processing architecture, including the disorder you mentioned (the modern medical term is "dissociative identity disorder") and people who have had damage to their corpus collosum.
