The ventral hangar of the Charon-class can't accommodate too many Pelicans. In fact, if you carefully watch the deployment cutscene, the wings on the Pelicans clip through the floor of the hangar because the opening is narrower than a Pelican's wingspan. But it was a cool cutscene...
