Re: Looking back at over ten years of Halo . . .

: I'm just going to say 4 defining moments of my Halo life. I would be of great
: joy if these could ever be topped.

: 1) Playing co-op on Halo 1's campaign. The game is just infinitely fun. It's
: still, for me, the most replayable Halo title. Second is Halo 3.

You know, it's funny I didn't even mention that. I played through Halo 1's campaign on co-op with my dad. He's not a gamer at all. Before Halo, he used to play Mario on the SNES with me when I was really little, but that's about it. He saw me playing Halo one night, though, and thought it looked amazing, so I started us off on easy, and we played through on every difficulty setting over a few month period. He loved it.

Then came Halo 2. He's old and stubborn, and as soon as the gameplay switched to the Arbiter, he was done. "I won't play as the enemy," I can remember him saying. Still makes me chuckle.

: 2) Having 16 player LAN parties with friends during high school. The laughs,
: the pizza, the competition, the fellowship. Who needs to go outside to
: play football when you have Halo?

LAN parties were the best. I miss lugging that giant brick around. I can remember a particularly epic weekend when I was a freshman in highschool. Went to a buddy's house with eight other friends. We played Halo 1 all weekend, along with a few games of Rainbow Six. I think the second Splinter Cell had just been released, too, so we played some spies versus mercenaries, but the majority of the time was spent playing Halo. I can remember hour long CTF matches on Blood Gulch and Sidewinder. For some reason, we were also fond of playing Hang 'Em High, but with only close range weapons. It was basically a ten person free for all with Assault Rifles and Shotguns in the trench; the average lifespan was something like twenty seconds. Basically respawn and run to the trench guns blazing.

: 3) Playing online multiplayer on Halo 1 PC. (Too many hours of my life lost.
: No regrets). I MISS, so much, the LONG hours of CTF Blood Gulch. Good
: times. Oh and camping with the flamethrower. The flamethrower was fun, and
: worked. I miss it.

: 4) The anticipation of Halo 2, and enjoying the adventure (new trailers, new
: magazine scans, etc.) with friends. I've never been so hyped for anything
: in my life. If only Halo 2's campaign was as good as it was advertised.
: (First play through was fun, but the game is not too replayable for me
: personally).

I actually really loved Halo 2's campaign. I was initially turned off by the Arbiter sections, and the ending, but besides Halo 1, I think I played 2's campaign the most. I don't know, I just really liked what Bungie was doing with the story.
