: there are very few shooters that can even come close to the Halo series

I was restricting my thoughts to games designed to utilize the new functionalities and capabilities of the era. For example, I would not consider a Super Mario inspired pixel art platformer that came out on the OG Xbox to be "part of the era" in the sense I'm using it.
I don't often find classics fun to play; I'm spoiled by the advances and lessons learned from those games. Going back can be informative from an educational perspective, but they enjoyment is usually sucked out a bit for me.
