: I enjoyed myself while playing the campaign. But it’s all the same. I can
: just walk out into the open world and find enemy encounters that are
: exactly like 99% of the campaign mission encounters. There’s no “mongoose
: rush against a scarab” like in Halo 3, or “fight through High Charity
: while it gets overrun by Flood” segment, or “crazy vehicle battle against
: 2 scarabs”… no real “set pieces”, for lack of a better term. The closest
: we get to that sort of thing are the boss fights, but they’re nothing
: special enough for me to want to replay them. Most of the story missions
: in this game are either walking through an indoor environment, fighting
: small groups of enemies along the way, or open-world “clear the enemy
: base” style missions, which are fun but very repetitive and “same-y”.
: There is 1 specific sequence that I wouldn’t mind playing again (no
: spoilers), but it’s very late in the campaign, and the only reason I’d
: like to replay it is because it was so obviously designed to be a cool
: co-op experience, and yet somehow this game shipped without co-op. That
: fact totally blows my mind. In many ways, the open-world elements of this
: game are like a co-op halo player’s dream come true! I know co-op is being
: patched in, but I’m afraid by the time it’s available, the vast majority
: of players will have moved on. I beat the campaign, found most of the
: collectables, and I have zero motivation to play anymore. Again, I enjoyed
: my time with the campaign. There’s a lot to like about it. But I just
: don’t find any reason to go back and revisit any of it.
I can't disagree that right now there's few reasons to replay the Campaign. I don't know if I care all that much, as a Game Pass subscriber, at least? I'll take a single playthrough experience I loved over a repeatable experience I liked. There is so much variety out there, I rarely replay games as it is.
I don't have as much fear about people moving on, as the introduction of co-op will make the experience totally different. Why not return to something you already own to play something that'll feel almost completely different? I may not feel the need to replay it now, but I know I absolutely will when co-op comes out. It'll be a release unto itself.
