I mean, just look at how big it is:
Even ignoring technical manuals and whatnot which show the firepower, shields, and FTL capability of even a regular ISD totally outclassing a regular Federation vessel, the Executor is obviously vastly more powerful. It's like putting a little patrol boat up against a huge battleship. The shielding, armor, firepower, etc., clearly favors the Executor. Even assuming roughly equivalent tech levels between the Federation and Empire, a regular ISD would be more like a big Dominion/Jem'Hadar battleship (which apparently was several times the size and strength of a Galaxy-class ship), while the Executor would be far beyond anything fielded by any major 24th-century power in the Star Trek galaxy, even the Borg.
Then again a lucky volley of quantum torpedoes to an unshielded Super Star Destroyer's bridge would take it out.
