Frankie once said that plasma weapons do NOT use plasma. Or, more accurately, he linked to a website that mentioned the impracticality of plasma based weapons. I can't remember if he explicitly stated that plasma weapons are not plasma based.

Of course, the EU writers may not have got that memo.

Who knows what the sword's 'plasma' 'magnetic, containment field can or can not do? Could it incorporate the bolt's containment field' and 'plasma' into its own field and contained plasma?

I couldn't say and you can't either. Arguing about it would feel like the classic SSD VS Ent E fights of yesteryear. ;-)
