I did an exhaustive look at reconciling the two games' layouts of the city so they could mesh. Sent my work in to 343i in the hope that something could be done for Halo 2 Anniversary. Ultimately, I think they decided that preserving the game's original skyline was the way to go (with the quick-switch Back button and all) rather than have discrepancies in the anniversary version versus classic.

But it was looked into. And it could have worked.
