The BSG remake was a remake. While it drew on elements of the original series and told much the same story, it was still a separate entity. There wasn't the slightest pretense that it was set in the same continuity. Same goes for things like the Dark Knight Trilogy. However, Halo 4 and 5 (and presumably 6) are, allegedly, still following on from the Bungie games. The events of the previous games still happened. The numbers continue from Halo 3. The Reclaimer trilogy is supposed to be a sequel, not a remake or a reboot.

If they'd said from the beginning "we're doing this over, with a new visual style/story interpretation", it wouldn't be such a big deal. But they're not, they're just...retconning stuff in, and not really the good stuff either.
