One of the things I absolutely hated with Halo 2 and Halo 3 MP on XBL was the one gun to rule them all game design and mentality.
I'm the guy that sees a Carbine, or AR, or Plasma Rifle on the ground and goes "Ooo! Let's use that!" and gets destroyed in a CQB fight by someone with a BR. Drove me nuts for years.
To this day, I still have problems disconnecting from Campaign mode (Where any weapon can be a tool of mass destruction) to Multi-Player mode where if you didn't want to use a BR as your right arm all the time you've already lost.
However, if that is the price I have to pay for Halo to feel like "Halo" again, so be it.
This worried me the first few games in Proving grounds. That it was just going to be a BR fest but I was mistaken! On the maps I played, there was a liberal amount of Carbines and DMRs scattered around in strategic places.
On one such map (the name alludes me ATM) In the center arena there is an Over shield spawn but around the outer edges, where lines of sight are longest from Red spawn to Blue spawn were DMRs. I picked one up, and my team dominated as I laid shots on target from afar to soften them up as they got closer, or I was able to pick people off as they ran away no-shields.
If felt great, to use a tool as it was intended.
