Very interesting ideas. I hope Bungie's "foresight", as they've talked about, has seen this post.
(You'll have to know a few things about Blam/Halo to get this post. Specifically, their joke about seeing a line for Blam/Halo forming 134 days into the future.)

Ah, I feel a thread coming on!
The question is: Why not explain it that way? Saving a game could be said to be unrealistic (you can "waste a life" to find out which path not to take in a level), just as unrealistic as having a map that, as said above, "…works because you'd be hosed without it".
How do you justify a save game feature--which is useful (having to attend the real world while playing) but also can be abused if its explaination doesn't cover the abusive actions, while still proving a "magic map" to be destructive to the gameplay? Cliches or commonly accepted unrealisms cannot be reasons.
I know how, does everybody else?
