Hmmm... I never liked that idea but you're free to interpret it that way if you want. My interpretation is different although if you can back up that point I'm willing to change it.
I just think it's a pretty lame reason. "Oh, he didn't want to tell them because it would scare them or worry them or confuse them." I think that's not really feasible when you consider that these men are hardened by years of fighting the undead, which are a pretty unnatural thing themselves, so I don't think they would be scarred for life if their leader, whom they respect, told them a bit of history. Plus the journal writer didn't seem scared when Nine Skull tells him about it after SB.
And if he meant Balor was killed as Connacht as opposed to Balor has been killed before as the super evil Leveller dude, why didn't he just say that as he has already told them that Balor and Connacht are two names for the same person and he would be just confusing them even more if he meant differently.
Also the way he says it suggests that this evil guy has been killed before and he came back with a vengeance so the only way to stop him coming back again is if we throw his head down a hole. If you think he means that every time he is killed he comes back the opposite of what he was before so when Connacht the good guy was killed he came back as Balor the baddy. If that is so then why would they care if he came back since surely he would come back good.
