: That's what I said...we prefer this one. The subjective
: one, since there is no objective way to define
: "accepted principles or rules." The accepted
: ones are whichever ones we choose to accept.
: Subjective.

Very well, if you must define it as such. I prefer to get something we can all agree upon.

: Who says he wasn't so enormous? Do we ever see or hear
: any other mention of Fang-Grinder's size?

That would be an interpretation via words. The drawings are intpretations via art.

: And I was stating this under the definition of
: "canon" as "works by a single
: author;"

Ah, very well.

: Again, I was stating this under the objective definition
: of "canon" as "works by a single
: author." Under the subjective definition,
: legalities enter into it if you happen to include them
: in the "approved rules."

Well great. We agree, but not in the same way :-). Or rather, we disagree, but based on the same principles.

: As you clearly do.
: But I need not.

Very well… I can hear the newcomers after m3 is released now…"You live in a Sili world!" :-)

: Were you interested in truth, you would not compromise.

Not so. Usually a person will take the most extreme course of debate standing to not be proven wrong. Often, this is counterproductive in getting the truth, as it hinders the acceptance of new ideas. A compromise may actually be the truth, if it is revealed as such.
Not only that, but compromise shows the other person one is willing to see the other's point of view so a mutual understanding can be attained; for, I believe, such is possible here.
Besides, my compromise doesn't affect the truth from before. That's partly why I'm willing to accept it.

: One does not calculate the gravitational constant by
: polling every physicist and averaging the results. The
: intellectually honest route is to define your starting
: assumptions and methodology and then stick to them.

Obstinance solves nothing. Ask the Germans. (If you don't fully get that joke, please say; I like subtlety, but I like you getting the jokes even more. :-)

: You are free to correct errors in your reasoning
: process or to alter your initial assumptions,

as I believe the Compromise has done,

: but not
: to alter your theories to match other peoples' because
: it's easier that way.

Ah, but even such steps are necessary in diplomatic situations. I am willing to sacrifice some of my integrity for a short period of time to show the other party my own point of view, and equally to experience theirs. That is logical, and ultimately gains, not "compromises" in the most negative sense.
