Maybe I missed something in the many many months I've been gone, but wasn't Mazzarin a "good" wizard who became a shade? The Watcher killed him, and later turned him into a shade, right? If that's so, I doubt Mazzarin would have just chosen to be a shade serving the guy who killed him...
