With a lot of the outsourced armor sets it's not just that the designs themselves are ugly, but that the subpar quality of the 3D modeling downgrades even otherwise workable designs (e.g. the Mk. V). In any case, I don't think maximum variety should be some end goal to strive towards if it means a decrease in production quality.
