Just a heads up, that was Revenant who made all these comments you replied so you'll want to direct that at them
: Accounting for physiology is not objectification. Now, if it's pushed to a
: silly extreme for obvious cheesecake purposes, then whatever. Call that
: objectification. Call a spade a spade. But making alterations to the
: contours of armor so that it correctly fits its wearer? That is not
: "objectification" (if anything, it could be argued that it's
: subjectification , because it's accounting for the character's personal
: needs).
I'll throw in my own two cents and agree with you on here for sure. I personally like form-fitting things and I even like fictional battle armor to be no different. I think examples like Halo's MJOLNIR, including your own design for Venerance, do that quite well. Do women need to have totally pronounced tit armor? Nope. We just need armor that comfortably allows them to breathe. :)
: Are you going to accuse me of "objectifying" my character because
: the armor doesn't hide the character's femininity? Because it emphasizes
: the curve of her legs? Because it's designed to compliment her physique,
: rather than override it?
I think there's a sense in many circles that femininity unfortunately has no place in a vast majority of fields, especially in the military. Now I would argue that mere shape of mine or any other woman's body is inherently feminine, but there is a notion that we can't or shouldn't accentuate our physique which is awfully ridiculous.
I do apologize if my own comments suggested otherwise because that was not my intention. Like I said, it was just an observation in general with how female Spartan models are depicted.
: Granted, I'm speaking more broadly than just Halo here. If armor is
: designed in a practical-minded way- in a way that accounts for plating
: coverage, mobility, utility and the like- and yet it also clearly
: displays the sex of the wearer, what's the problem?
I've always wondered, at least with Halo, if individual MJOLNIR suits are tailored to the specific individual wearer. I can't imagine that a suit made for John is going to fit comfortably and effectively for Jun, just as it won't between suits for Maria and Olivia, for example. They're all going to have the same type of suit with the same basic functionality. The only difference would be the fit and the Spartan number emblazoned on the chest. I don't necessarily think that you can necessarily distinguish one gender from another under the cover of MJOLNIR when, ideally, everyone will have unique body types that quite literally don't fit a mold.
