After re-reading my own comments I can see that now, and I regret coming back at him harshly for it. It seemed out of the blue and was not what I expected as a response to what I thought was well intentioned, and I reacted badly.

I ran through it two more times, making sure to do it as closely as possible to each other with the only difference being time. I waited 3 minutes, then 8 the second time. Again it only worked on the latter. I'm pretty confident it will work every time using the guidelines I set, and that the 1 minute theory does not work. The next area has a variety of conditions which cause b_ex_p1_has_started to be set to true if enough time has not passed after destroying the crystals, including just walking too far forward, or letting the enemies notice you, so I still think avoiding it altogether is the easiest option. I've put out everything I've been looking at, so anyone can mess around with it themselves, and if they find something I've missed great, although my impression is that they will be minor nuances.

At this point I'm just going to make the video and be done with it, I've run it dozens of times over the past week and I'm not exactly amazing at the game so it's been at least an hour each time so I'm pretty tired of it.
