This is why I said my response was a bit "tongue-in-cheek" :)

I know answers to my questions are out there, somewhere, in some book in the Halo Expanded Universe, but as a Spartan simply playing Halo 4, none of these answers are there. I had to stop playing Spartan Ops because the game gave me no explanation as to why we were murdering (who I saw as) the Arbiter's friends and family.

Chief and Cortana speculate that the Covenant troops in "Dawn" are scavengers, but the identity of the group is never resolved in the campaign. And after we kill the Didact, and there are a few stragglers left on Requiem? Why don't we just live and let live? The game doesn't present us with any reason at all, at least at first.

My questions were more a critique of how the game's story is (isn't) presented. An old complaint, I know, but it made the game much less enjoyable and made me feel like a tool of ONI and not a hero of mankind.
