I would not say more or less exciting, just different.
Personally, I am enjoying exploring the post war power vacuum.
It's not unreasonable to think that just because Humanity teamed up at the end with Elites to fight the flood that everything would just go to being OK once that was done. Hell no.
There are still factions on both sides that are going to hate each other because that's what happens after war. Wounds like that take a few generations to heal and a few more for racism to die.
I like that we are seeing that not everyone is a hero. You know, in the Nylund books I liked Ackerson's role because -news flash- people like him do exist. The higher you go in Government, the more corruption you'll find.
That doesn't mean (and this is kind of addressed at you, Levi) there still aren't the good guys like Lord Hood and the Arbiter. The heroes are there, balancing out the not so heroic.
I like where things are going just because I can compare it to current history. Not to start off some huge political debate. The causes and missions might be noble, but the way they are accomplished isn't always reflective of that.
Sometimes I feel like they should have just left Master Chief alone and done these characters without him, see where things are going. Maybe that would make more people happy and maybe not, considering that your average Halo fan equates Halo with Master Chief. Hard to say.
I don't really care about the Janus Key so far. The whole thing about there being treasure troves of tech for the Humans to reclaim just doesn't do it for me (keeps reminding me of Stargate) BUT, I am interested in the idea that there is Forerunner stuff out there that might still be set against Humanity from the ancient wars. Maybe things that didn't get the memo.
I don't really like the thought that the Librarian had some kind of grand design to get (seemingly) specific characters where they are in the plot such as Halsey.
I'd like to see more of the Flood again.
I'd like to see a reunion of the SII's and maybe them teach some humility to the SIV's.
More excited? No. Less excited? No. Just happy to see the gears change a little.
