: Microsoft said some features will now be disabled. What I don't get is... why
: not just disable the new features if the console is offline. Lets have a
: look.
: Playing games from the HDD without a disk: So you put in a game and install
: it, it now registers your account to be able to play that game (a code
: probably) If you are online, it allows you to play it without a disc, if
: you are offline, it won't. Sounds like that would work to me.
It should work, yes. As I posted in a above comment, I expect them to go this way without taking away what gamers like about their 180. It's all code in the end. Has nothing to do with the system's physical parts.
: Accessing your library from any console you're signed in on: Again, you go
: around a friends, you sign in and download a game that registered to you,
: you play it on your account while online, as soon as you sign out on that
: console, the game stops working until you sign back in or your friend buys
: it.. Problem? I don't think so.
The problem is that friends/family may not want to have that code on their system all the time. Deleting the game from the system will not delete that hidden code. And who wants to download a game each time they visit a friend? It's bad enough they are going the Sony route and forcing installations. Let alone having to install it as well. Granted, they are basically the same thing, but that's a LOT of space we're talking about.
The average Disc game today is about 7 GB in size. With a 500 GB drive that leaves us with (roughly) only 71 games on the hard drive. With or without a disc, that's a LOT of wasted space. And keep in mind that in reality, that 71 games will more likely be 65 instead. The other space will be filled with Movie, TV, Music, Updates, Arcade, and Game DVR saves. Do you really want to have to consistently download games that you've had to delete before because you needed the space?
And who's to say your or your friend's internet will be fast when you go over? You may end up spending half the day (or longer) watching a download bar very slowly progress.
: Family Sharing: Again, if you specify an account in your family, how about it
: will only play if they are signed in????
Who's to say that person is a member of my family? I could say that my cousin is part of my family. If they allow him to share my account, what's to happen when he signs in back at his house? Does he still share my Gold?
We already have game sharing. I'm sharing a Xbox360 with 2 other guys in the same house. I can't play Indy games offline (which is stupid) but I can play other games offline that I bought through that console. My friends can play those arcade games as well without restrictions. Why? because it's on the same console they are playing on. Gold not required for them. One of them is trying to beat Limbo with his account. But I'm the one that bought it. And games I didn't buy through this console are accessible to us all as long as we are online and my account is attached to the system.
: You see where I'm going with this, it's all possible if you say online only.
: As soon as you are offline, the Xbox One pretty much turns into a Xbox
: 360..
: I think Microsoft are just saying, "fine, you want it like that? Then
: fuck you, you get NOTHING ELSE"
Nothing Else? We'll still be getting a free game each month and all the other features that comes with the Xbox180. Want to share games with friends? Then take your profile with you and the games on a Flash Drive or take a game disc. It's NOT as big a deal as you make out it is. You can still play them at a friend's if you're connected to Xbox Live.
