: you have bigger things to be concerned with?
If this were the North Atlantic or Southwest Pacific during the Second World War, sure, your opinion may have some weight. But not really. Submariners, like their surface counterparts, are still humans. They enjoy the same things as other humans do and require the same level of level headed thought.
Submarines function to destroy other submarines, attack land targets, launch nuclear-tipped missiles, or conduct sneaky surveillance. I'm guessing only the surveillance bit is the one where they enjoy constant activity. When you're in an undersea frontier for months isolated from billions of others, wouldn't you want a way to kill time when you're off-duty? Video games and film and television are just as vital to the well being of a deployed serviceman as cards, reading, writing, etc. we're to their predecessors just a few years ago.
We as civilians have the luxury of bitching about these sorts of things and they truly don't matter to us. We have plenty of other things to do. For the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines deployed overseas and on operations, something which brought them so much enjoyment has been taken from them. I'd be pissed off.
