: Wow, extra credits has been on a roll lately with good videos. This one is
: definitely applicable to 343. I hope they watch it and take something
: away.
He/she/they (whoever creates EC) mentions more than once the 'one guy' who insisted that something had to be shoehorned into BI in order to make it 'BioShock'
I don't think that's accurate.
Go over Plinkett's long series dissecting Lucas and Star Wars. You see that it's evident that it wasn't *one* person, it was a mind-think that people got sucked into. Sure, Lucas is the leader, but the fact is that all around him are folks who are going with the flow. Like a school of moonfish.
The older I get, the more I think group dynamics / mob mentality / peer pressure, etc., are the largest motivators for why we are what we are. You get to work on a game like Bio Inf and much like the hormonal re-sychronizing among women in groups, you see a similar creative re-synch among the people involved.
It's not that one person said 'hey, we have to have looting or else it's not Bioshock', it's that one person did NOT say 'hey, what the fuck is looting doing in here? It makes no sense!'
