: But candidly speaking, my opinion of you is that you love Bungie more than
: you do Halo.
Haha, no, no it's what I said. :P Bungie AND Halo conjoined was my favorite. I'm excited for Destiny, but I was way more excited for Halo 2 or 3 back in the day.
: It's not that Destiny feels like Halo, its that Destiny feels like Bungie .
Maybe, but like I said in the last post, Bungie and my 'Halo' are synonymous in my head. I dated one of Bungie's daughters for a decade, and while I've come to realize that she turned out so great because of her parents, it's still her (Halo) and her own unique personality and looks that I fell in love with.
And now that she has died, I have to date her younger daughter who looks similar and had the same great parenting, but while she might be really cool, I'll still be thinking about her older sister...
Man! I am GREAT at metaphors!
: They just gel with what *you* like.
: You like Bungie's Halo because its been around enough that its cemented what
: Halo should be to you- there were no other alternatives. Your art and
: writing style are very Bungie-esq, they are a huge influence on you. It's
: a style that you fit and that fits you.
Sure. Halo was intrinsically tied to Bungie - I mean, they created it. :) Now that they're gone and their style greatly diverted from in new Halos, my brain no longer sees Halo products that come out now as the same Halo before. Same name, different things. If 343i had named everything Halo: The Next Generation and jumped 30 years into the future with different characters, it would actually probably be easier for me to enjoy. But because they're using the same era, storylines, characters, etc., but without the visuals, music, and tones from before, it feels way more jarring.
I guess it comes down to a 'greater than the whole' question - how many little things can you change of something till it becomes something new entirely? If a new Star Wars sequel came out and it didn't use any of the classic themes and the Storm troopers and Tie Fighters didn't look just right and Han Solo turned out to be a bad guy... Would it still be 'Star Wars'?
: When the torch was passed the new alternative was familiar and yet
: fundamentally different to your core outline of Bungies Halo. Its a style
: that while not necessarily bad, doesn't fit you.
Right.
: At least that's how I see it as it applies to you individually.
: Loftus would be my counter example- he has stated many, many times that he
: likes Halo because Halo.
: Agree to disagree I suppose? I'm not claiming to know you better than you
: know you (that would be foolish) I just know that sometime what we think
: we see and know about ourselves gets....blurred because of ourselves haha.
: Forrest for the trees kinda thing ;)
: TL;DR
: Bungie could slap Marty's music on just about anything and tease a blurry
: napkin sketch and you'd be hooked :P
Well... probably! But if the napkin sketch was of Master Chief, that's what would make me most excited. :)
That's I' always be keeping up with Halo and trying out new games if possible. I've still had fun with Halo 4, especially in co-op.
But I like endings. I was happy with what I got in the Bungie Era and I'm fine with letting 'my' Chief snooze in Cryo the rest of my life - I can always go back and play his original adventure!
