Same here. I can see why 343 would want to turn the tables on expectation (drama usually pulls the fans in) but I'm not so sure killing her off was the best way to do that. It pulled more of an emotional response than I expected, but I don't think finishing her off is good for future of the Halo story line.

I was even happy with the whole "recompile her nueral net" solution because Cortana was the first AI created from someone's mind. Though I do admit that that is too easy of a solution, a cop-out if you will. So maybe a Forerunner augmented Cortana is the way to go.
It sounds kind of . . . invasive though. Like, I don't want my Cortana mucked around with like that.
