I have read a number of the Halo books several times, and have just started on the Forerunner Saga, finishing book 1 a couple of days ago. One of the first things I noticed [SPOILER ALERT - DON'T CONTINUE READING IF YOU DON'T WANT NO STINKIN' SPOILERS] is that the Forerunners have ancilla (AI) that last for thousands of years.
Now, I had already formed my own best-case scenario for the Halo story, where Halsey had indeed figured out a way to weed out the crazy from Cortana and allow her to continue on her way, but with how Spartan Ops ended, now Halsey has an even better chance to hack into and/or leverage the information on how to accomplish this, if she hadn't figured it out on her own all those years she was wherever: I know she had at least some opportunity at the end of another novel (cryptic-ness intentional to avoid more spoilage ;) ) to study Forerunner structures...
