: Essentially, this mathematician/social scientist predicted unrelenting
: inter-human conflict ripping human space apart, causing the collapse of
: human social order, and leading to an unrecoverable dark age for
: space-fairing humanity.
The Carver Findings are an excellent addition to the universe and I'd totally love to see his report in full. However, you have to wonder just how much of it isn't steeped in Carver's potential tolerance or support of imperialism, colonialism, militarism, capitalism, and a whole buffet of other isms to boot. People seem to always hold academics in high regard when they can be just as biased or prejudiced as the radio talk show host, using their status and perceived intellect as a shield.
Elias Carver would have been the perfect agent to shore up support for Earth to conduct a massive military build up and introduce an aggressive, revised doctrine to combat the Outer Colonies. Do I think that the Carver Findings were right? Absolutely. Just in the way that Carver or the Security Council feared for their colonial empire in secret. Human space would surely be ripped apart at the seams. It's just that it would split apart a colonizer from the very worlds it needed to maintain its political, economic, industrial, and military supremacy. Honestly it would probably do as much to send humanity back into a relative dark age as European colonial possessions often forcefully leaving their empires in the 20th century.
Interesting enough, the Archive just started a topic about the very subject of the Carver Findings. What a neato coincidence.
: That said, Halsey still absolutely used those findings as an excuse to run
: unethical experiments, among many other abuses of scientific and political
: power. She just hid them under the banner of this noble cause.
: I agree with the above though, more of an Oppenheimer than a Himmler. Even at
: the end of her life she saw it as a necessary evil, though it tore her
: apart emotionally knowing the suffering she caused.
