In Response To: Re: I actually agree with him... sort of. (Cody Miller)

: I doubt this is true. I'm getting my information from the head of Red Digital
: Cinema, as well as many post houses who finish trying to get the best
: image possible. Every single one says turn the sharpness to 0 on a digital
: TV or monitor. Just because it is 50 by default doesn't mean turning it
: less blurs the image.

I'm not basing my claim off the default. I hardly ever remember what the default on a given TV is. I'm basing this claim on what I've seen with my eyes, and on my knowledge of computer graphics and digital filtering. For many TVs that I've used, there is extremely obvious and very heavy blurring when the sharpness is turned low.

This includes the TV I'm using right now. I just opened up Infamous Second Son. As I decrease sharpness, the TV is applying some sort of colour bleeding effect between nearby bright elements, and there seems to be a vertical blur filter which gets wider as the sharpness is decreased (and which hilariously seems to only use two samples, even though the samples are spaced several pixels apart by the time you get to sharpness=0; this hilariously results in a grainy vertical double-vision appearance when the sharpness is below 20 or so).
Also, at sharpness = 50, I'm not seeing any obvious false ringing on solid edges in the environment, whereas I start to see such effects as I crank the sharpness higher.
