I can understand it, even if I'd never get one myself. They're for people who live for the present, and use their bodies as a means of expression. Or people who live in the present, and suffer from short-term memory loss. Badum-tish!
Tattoos can have other uses as well. After my dad's heart attack, I suggested that we tattoo notes from the surgical team on his chest, so the next team won't have to start from scratch.

Girl who worked in the lab at the food plant where I worked had a tattoo of a rose on her... ahem, chest. One day, in the lunch room, one of her co-workers said it would be a long-hipped rose by the time she was fifty.
