In Response To: Myth Roleplaying (Uriel)

: I'll preface this by mentioning that I don't currently
: own GURPS Myth.

: Here's a question - how many of you use the GURPS Myth
: tome exclusively as a story reference, and how many
: have actually played the game? I'd wager my last
: Bungie buck (hmm...or whatever those points redeemable
: for Bungie merchandise were called) that almost none
: of you have made up characters and played GURPS Myth;
: I certainly wouldn't want to, primarily because GURPS
: is an absolutely wretched system for simulating the
: Myth world. The tone is just wrong - an obsessively
: detailed character creation ritual involving
: allocating hundreds of points to a long list of
: attributes, skills, advantages and disadvantages
: simply doesn't work with Myth's heroic tone.
: Unfortunately, at the time GURPS Myth came out, GURPS
: was the only viable generic RPG system out there, and
: I don't blame Bungie one bit for not wanting to create
: their own system, considering that their primary
: intended use for the RPG was merely to be a reference
: source. Last summer, however, Wizards of the Coast
: released the Dungeons and Dragons 3rd Edition core
: rulebooks, which codify the basic rules for the
: open-source D20 RPG system. I'm not sure if any of you
: will be familiar with this; if not, check out
: http://www.opengamingfoundation.org /.
: http://www.opengamingfoundation.org/srd.html has the
: open-source portions of the D20 rules for your
: parusing pleasure. Essentially, WotC has extended an
: open license to use the framework of the rules they
: developed. It's an excellent system, and seems like it
: could be an excellent fit for the Myth world. Is there
: any interest in the Myth community in a conversion?

: Uriel

I would be very inteseted in a rpg conversion using the D&D engine. I dont, nor will ever own GURPS myth (simply cuz I have no money to buy the damn thing) so D&D's engine would work fine for me. besides a D&D ruled game will get a larger response from RPGers, and maybe there would be a better turnout when playing a TC with that engine. I wouldnt put money on it though.

Also I would want to know how this TC would happen. is it possible to convert the Myth engine to accomodate a rpg-rts hybyrd(sp?), that would resemble the Balgurs gate games? If so I think that that would be the best possible route to having a rpg in a myth world.
