Because there were indigenous people there that most likely didn't have the power to oppose the Cath Bruig, so they were simply annexed. The Bruig settled the cities and government.

You have your terms mixed up. "Succession" is what means where the next king or leader is in question and fought over; for example, The Spanish War of Succession. "Secession" is the breaking away of a district or governmental area. For instance, the South seceded from the Union.
