Well, I would never be saying 'filthy casual', but you touch on a further aspect there. Hitmarkers erode the art of battle, dumbing things down in a way, and babying the player. To be looking for hitmarkers instead of judging the situation with sight and sound and experience - that's so terrible I think.

It's a horrendous thing 343 have done here for campaign, and it goes squarely against the sort of more realistic combat experience I want. Compulsory hitmarkers (especially the very prominent raditating lines, even just on aesthetic grounds, let alone ideological) are certainly a major put-off for me as a potential customer.
