If I'm remembering correctly, Cryptum kind of skips over the details of the Flood's reintroduction to the galaxy after the Human-Forerunner War.

So, Flood powder leads to Flood outbreak in human society. Humans "defeat" the Flood and it retreats out of the galaxy. The Forerunners forget or never found out about it. Then the Flood returns in its current state to G617g (or "Seaward", as we learned from the short story Soma the Painter). I don't think the Didact or Librarian ever mentions it by name. They just kind of generally say that the Flood has returned.

Again, this is just off the top of my head.
