What was most fascinating to me was when Holmes talked about how they had originally tried really out-there concepts for Forerunner weapons, but people weren't using them in playtests so they had to go with reskinned "normal" guns. This is a really good point. Bungie tried out a number of unusual Covenant weapons over the years, but the only ones that got used consistently were the Plasma Pistol and Needler. In Reach, for instance, people mostly used the DMR, Sniper, Shotgun etc. even though really interesting and cool options like the Plasma Launcher and Focus Rifle were available. I was disappointed along with many others that the new Forerunner weapons were pretty boring, but I guess the numbers show that the bulk of the audience wants boring.
