: Since we're talking about gameplay stuff, let's focus on that for a bit,
: specifically player movement in Halo. When the series first started, the
: basic means of moving your avatar (usu. the Chief) was a very simple and
: straightforward affair. You used the left analog stick to walk/run, you
: clicked left stick to crouch, you use right stick to turn around, and you
: used a face button (usu. A) to jump. So, your entire range of movement is
: dictated by the analog sticks and one face button. That's pretty much it
: for basic movement. Pretty standard stuff for an FPS. It worked like that
: for four consecutive games. But over time that minimalist approach has
: given way to greater complexity.

I haven't played Halo 5, but I did play MCC to get the new cutscenes, and let me tell you especially after playing Destiny, the movement was one of the things that stood out and aged poorly. It felt like you were just skating along the surface, with no weight and realism at all. This was made all the worse by the updated graphics, since the unreal nature of your movements clashed with the increased realism of the environment.

The guns in Destiny also feel very real, and very satisfying to fire. From what I have SEEN of Halo 5, the guns don't look or sound real at all. You don't know for sure until you fire one, but I can pretty much already tell they look ridiculous. The movement also looks ridiculous.

It's something every developer is going to have to deal with. The more immersive the environment you create, the more you have to make sure that's not spoiled with bad movement and guns.
