Mechanical and Aesthetically Clash
By:Cody Miller

Out of context, the work 343 has done on MCC looks very good. The graphics are detailed, and modern looking. Everything seems great. Until you play the game.

The problem I had was that while the visuals improved, the mechanics of the game did not. There was a clash with the more realistic visuals, and the floaty movements and kinetics. Imagine if you took Doom and updated the visuals to be modern and 3D, but kept the character movement exactly the same. It would feel out of place and comical. This is what I felt happened with MCC.

It doesn't feel as bad when played originally, because the original graphics on the Xbox were not as detailed and sophisticated, and meshed much better with the mechanics.

Not much 343 could do since they were sticking to how it originally played, but it's fascinating how just changing the graphics can make the game feel 'wrong'.
