Agreed. It's kind of shocking given all the other massive leaps forward, but we haven't evolved much beyond the "different colored sprites" of the mid-1990s in a way with regards to unit variety. Having different armor, different skins, the mix of races would be awesome, and helps tie together the disparate elements of the universe that have changed for reasons more practical than canonical.
