I can't help but feel the entire Halo4 campaign would have benefited had all the Promethian weapons been completely taken out of the equation. Had they been part of the armor like the fuel cannons the Hunters use.
The ONLY purpose I see them used for is to remove unwanted bodies from the field by designating what they kill. The Bolt shot is clearly meant to replace Mahler (or is it Mauler?). But at least that weapon only had half the damage of a shotgun. For full effect, a player had to combine it with another weapon (usually another Mahler in H2). But Nope.
The Boltshot is just a compact shotgun that looks like a pistol to fool other players. The Light Rifle is useless clone of the DMR. Infact it's much closer to being what the DMR should be then the actual DMR!
The Incinerator Cannon is a FuelRod Cannon and Rocket Laucher's bastard love child on steroids. Like it's parents, it too needs to be aimed near or at a player to kill them. Nothing wrong with that. However it also takes out twice as many surrounding players with it. Simply because it has bouncing one hit = death shrapnel! I want to kill the enemy not myself nor teammates!
The Promethian Rifle (or PR because I forget it's actual name) is a the bastard child of the Carbine and Sniper Rifle. Except it ALWAYS kills in one shot. Has half the clip size of the UNSC's but the auto-aim or the Carbine. You really don't even need a scope on it but it has one.
Promethian Vision does nothing but breaks map in both campaign and multiplayer. Halo maps use to have a surprise to them. In campaign you may not know what's around the corner til you reached it. And Camouflaged enemies were scary. Now you can see everything and everyone a mile away. It's the same in Multiplayer. No longer can players use Camo to an advantage because Promethian completely removes it's use! 343i made the excuse that it's a counter to Camouflage. No It's Not! The Camo's Radar Effect Is!! Now it impossible to make a balanced map because of Promethian Vision. The point of corners and hiding spot are so Players Can Hire In Them!
The ONLY fair and useful Promethian addition is the Pulse Grenade. It doesn't work instently like other grenades but boy does it deter players from entering a doorway or grabbing a objective item. Love that it never bounces and forces players to use it wisely. I've been weakened and killed by it often and yet I never feel cheated when I am. It's by far the most balanced Promethian weapon in the game.
The rest need to be removed. As does the DMR. If the DMR isn't removed then it's range needs to be greatly reduced by half or more. The BR is a beast still but it's fairly balanced after the update. But both still easily takes out AR players at close range and that's just stupid.
I love and hate the Saw. Love it's power but hate how powerful it is because only a rocket at close to mid range seems to be abke to counter it. I mostly use the AR and pistol but always drop the pistol for the Saw. Need to reload? Switch to the AR to finish the job quickly. Reload and repeat. If hit from a distance I'll be screwed either way if I don't find cover fast. That's when the default sprint comes in.
I know players are hating on Sprint being accessible all the time (when not cooling down) but having it just makes sense due to cannon. Besides the only ones I ever seem to hear about sprint are those that spam with the BR and DMR from across maps. Otherwise the shooter would just use sprint to chase down their target for the kill. Sprint is the only thing that balances out the BR and DRM ( & Magnum at times).
