(Foo) Ok, so lets look at it from the other end: lets assume a distribution of 10,000 Mac/PC CD's Oni Ships; date unknown Distribution (boxes to stores); one to two weeks Packaging of manual/CD in boxes; 3-5 days Print Boxes; 5 days (boxes can be done ahead of time with beta screenshots) Print Manual; 3-4 days (manual waits till last minute, I'll assume) CD Replication (guessing solid week turn-around?) Golden Master (golden master sent to replicating- 2 days) Beta Testing (subject to revisions) 1 to 3 months Advertising bought and placed? (space probably at least two months in advance) If the beta was ready last week, lets assume that they have it in Microsoft's beta-testing hands late this week... If absolutely no problems arrise, and asuming the quickest route through all the hoops, beta testing might complete on 10/20, golden master is passed to replicating house and 10,000 CD's sent to packaging by 10/26, boxes packed and on the truck maybe by halloween, distribution to stores by 11/3, or more likely, week of November 6-10. However, I don't see Microsoft moving through the beta-testing of Oni in only 3-4 weeks...(yes, they are large, and have lots of beta-testers, but bungie was only aquired 3 or 4 months ago...) The only reason 10/26 is in our minds is because that's the launch date of the PS/2, and it was Take 2 that was showing Oni to EuroGamer...Matt has stated that Take 2 is responsible for marketing Oni, and if Take 2 was planing to market Oni for the the PS/2 launch date, why not take the opportunity to say so? (instead of "50%" done; shipping 3/00) If the Mac/PC version is traveling a separate path than the PS/2, is it ahead or behind? We saw some (limited) PS/2 movies and screenshots from E3 2000, but we've been unable to determine if anything we've seen is from current builds of the PC/Mac. (either Rockstar/Take2 is a little looser with the PS/2 screenshots, or the PS/2 build is farther ahead.) If BungieWest is in fact on track to have Oni ready for a pre-christmas release, does Take 2 have enough time to build any momentum? Let's skip the game and go straight to the post-mortem write up of the development cycle... it will probably be filled with more intrige and suspense. Pico... | |
