: And, lastly but not leastly, if the Head's a good guy,
: you still have to explain the unnecessary
: complications it introduces.

Which I can do with one sentance: He didn't want to be discovered.

To elaborate; in my theory The Head started the whole cycle thing, and serves as a sort of anti-Leveller. If everybody knew about this, do you think *anyone* would trust him? I mean, imagine you have got some really evil and powerfull enemy, say some nation you're at war with. Then, right as you're about the be destroyed by this enemy, some savior comes along and tells you how to save the day, but in the process reveals that he brought the enemy there in the first place. Would you trust him after that? I think not.

Likewise, if the Head had revealed, even indirectly, that he started the cycles, that the whole war (and all Great Wars previous) were his fault, even though he had stopped the wars as well and would stop this one, do you think anyone would trust him? Again, no. So he has to act covertly, making things go his way without anybody noticing that it's *his way*, even portraying himself as the enemy in the process. He's a six-thousand year old talking head who was buried in the dirt for at least half a millenium, and came out of it none the worse! I doubt he's really afraid that anyone's going to be able to hurt him; instead, he's concerned about making the Light do what they must without it being known that it's his idea.

[major snip - good but moot points]

In conclusion, I would like to say:
"So there, ha!" :-)
