With the slightly too-long mustache and the absence of the classic Johnson vocal inflections, this new Johnson seems like a dime-store substitute for the original. I admit I am thoroughly spoiled by how good of a job David Scully did with the original. I completely understand why the recasting was inevitable. It can't be helped that David Scully has quit voice acting and I'm not sure if the gentleman is even alive.

I just wish they'd made the new Johnson try to be a little less generic. Bringing back the Johnson we know and love is no longer practical, but time does that to a lot of things, but I just wish they'd brought in someone with more personality, for lack of a better term. There's something about the new Johnson's voice that's just flatter, more monotone, less distinctive, less over-the-top. Johnson was a cartoony character in the best of ways, and I wish the new VA had been directed to try to include some more of that over-the-top hamminess in his performance.

Let me see if I can grow to like him. This is a short sample, and time will tell.
