There has been ample opportunity to review their performance and they are still around.

To be fair, decisions are made by the entire team. The good bits of a game are decided by the people doing the work. Lots of competent people making good decisions adds up to a good game.

Bungie doesn't want it back.

I would like to see Bungie make a brand new thing without a shred of player investment systems in it.

I the old days they wanted to make the best games that they could make and we wanted them to make the best games that they could make. Company and customer had shared interests.

Many of the player investment features of Destiny were not in my interests. I felt at odds with Bungie. They wanted to eke out their energies and wanted me to give their game all my energies. That couldn't last for me.

Yes, the original game will always have a special place in my heart.

Even turning Cortana into an asshole hasn't tarnished it for me because I can separate foolish story decisions make by 3rd rate writers from my "reality" of the Halo universe. I have always been fairly comfortable straddling the 4th wall. For example, "why did this character do this out of character thing?" Answer: because the writers were idiots. :-) It's a lot less convoluted that trying to invent an in-universe explanation.
