I think Denning’s works are best that way. The military sci-fi and espionage settings are easy to digest and there’s not much astral projection needed to figure out high concept. It’s just good action, characterization, and lore, and I couldn’t ask for more (but I will).

Shadows of Reach ought to be a lovely new entry.
