The way it was written, and the way Buck apparently knows everyone in the Halo universe that ever existed . . . it honestly read like bad fan fiction to me. I was only just barely able to push myself to finish it.

The only thing that kept me going was the Insurrectionist angle. I really kept hoping it was going to delve a bit deeper into that, and really show the conflicting motivations of either side and make a thoughtful point, but that didn't really happen. It felt mostly just like pandering. "Remember how awesome Buck was? Here's a novel for him! You guys remember Jun, right? Here he is! Oooh, Buck fought with Noble Six on Reach! *wink* Isn't Halo fun?!"

Ugh.
