I'm halfway through Last Light, and...

... Denning has packed more awe and wonder into a quick glimpse of a broken Forerunner power generator/universe aborter than Peter David managed to capture in a whole book about exploring a Forerunner station the size of Saturn.

Before I picked Last Light up, I'd heard some plot points that put me off the book, and the preview at S&S didn't win me over either. Things like Huragok wiping memories or Humans joining a Forerunner-worshiping cult after a mysterious Forerunner device heals them sounded kind of trite to begin with. But the delivery is perfect.

Also, when Wendel stated that an exact percentage of the caverns were unexplored, I actually called bullshit out loud. You can't imagine how happy I was to see a character immediately latch on to how weird that is.

So far, Last Light is up there with the Nylund novels. I hope to finish it this weekend, if I have the time.
