: Really? So... I'm trying to picture what this apartment now looks like while
: he speaks... Clearly not a wreck, but clean and emptied bare; yet,
: "as if there never was" any fixtures, appliances, cabinets (I
: can picture that!), but neither trimming, flooring, plumbing ...
: So, like it was designed to be..not an apartment?
: Granted, that expression could be interpreted a couple of ways - like maybe
: the state of the apartment could be visualized as a new, unfinished
: apartment (so those things hadn't yet been installed in the first place;
: as opposed to an actual apartment designed without those things, or
: excessively cleaned to the extent of hiding the fact that they had never
: even previously existed in the apartment), or it could just be an
: intentional overstatement for exaggerated effect... nonetheless that
: little cliche felt out of place. hehe
: But yes, aside from some little writing/cliche annoyances for dramatic
: effect, definitely a great story!
I dunno, I thought that made perfect sense. We see ONI not as brutes but as highly efficient and selective agents—so I could see them "tossing a joint" in the most methodical and neat way possible, leaving as you say essentially a room that didn't much look like it had ever been finished in the first place.
