I'm tempted to refer to the things as "pocket cruisers", like the pocket battleship. They're just so cute. I can't tell if they represent a step forward or backward - whether they're a new, miniaturised design, or an older design that formed the template for their larger successors. I'm not sure which backstory I would like better.
