I doubt this is true. I'm getting my information from the head of Red Digital Cinema, as well as many post houses who finish trying to get the best image possible. Every single one says turn the sharpness to 0 on a digital TV or monitor. Just because it is 50 by default doesn't mean turning it less blurs the image.
